Elk are members of the Cervidae family. They have massive antlers and long legs with cloven hooves. The Cervidae family includes moose, deer, and caribou. Elk are not as enormous as the moose, yet they are larger than the deer in size. The Elk size typically between 4 to 5 feet from hoof to shoulder and weigh around 325 to 1100 lbs. However, the antlers on the elk make it a much taller-looking animal. The antlers on a male elk can grow up to 4 feet above its head, causing the elk to measure around 9 feet tall. Elk generally live in large herds such as 100+ members. The largest population of elk is typically found in North America. The elk prefers woodland, open mountains, coniferous swaps, aspen-hardwood forests, and coniferous-hardwood forests.
